Flat channels are fine until two conversations happen at once and neither is followable. Threads and mentions sort that out.
Threads
- Reply in a thread off any message, so a side conversation stays attached to what it's about instead of scrolling the main channel out from under everyone else.
- The channel stays readable — the back-and-forth lives in the thread, not in the middle of every other topic.
@mentions
- @mention a teammate to pull them into the right spot. They get notified, and they land exactly where the conversation is instead of scrolling to find it.
Why it matters
Comms already live on the same spine as your product, so a decision in a chat is a step away from the work it affects. Threads make those conversations survivable at team size, and mentions make sure the person who needs to weigh in actually sees it.
